Returning to the Present Moment

Just returned from a few day's of much needed retreat. My time was spent resting, moving mindfully, eating healthy and being in nature. My biggest takeaway was the practice of being with what is happening in the present moment. This sounds like a beginner skill, but you have to gain a level of mastery to actually experience it.

A moment of awakening is when a veil we don't know exists lifts and you see a more then human reality. This can happen for us at any given moment along the journey of life. The experience will open you to immense clarity and the feeling permeates every level of your being. Eventually the veil drops back down and you're yelling at your kids and negotiating with your negative bank balance again. This is the point that we set out on a quest to clear all the "bad" from out life and get back to the lifting of the veil.

There's a lot of effort-ing along the awakening path and it's not all wasted time. The only task that will keep you spinning in useless energy is trying to change what's happening by blaming or controlling the external factors that seem to stimulate the suffering. You can't eliminate the painful experiences of being a human. Pain, loss, and transition is part of the Earth experience and it's never going away. If anything, it's intensifying. If you're relying on controlling the world around you without understanding what's happening within you, human life will be miserable and terrifying.

We are here to be alive and express our Soul out into the world. That requires an ability to stand present in heartbreak, rejection, disappointment, terror and loss of potentially everything we think belongs to us. To some, this sounds horrible. Others will realize that begin able to be with the experience of life is the catalyst into freedom and true joy. When you no longer need the world to change, you can get to the real work of the human journey and find creative ways to express your truth into the world.

Here's my Four nuggets of wisdom from all my years of trying to be present, fighting with what is and the moments of actual presence Ive been lucky enough to expereince:

  1. Your body is ALWAYS healing. Bring yourself out of fight/flight and trust the innate wisdom of this vehicle.

  2. Your Spirit is ALWAYS course correcting you towards love, unity and joy because this is the true nature of our Universe.

  3. You can't fix what's happening outside of you, but when you share your souls essence without fear, you offer others an pathway to greater healing.

  4. Your biggest battle will be with the parts of yourself you developed to protect you from pain and loss. Practice the art of being present and allowing yourself to feel without judgment, eventually you will realize it's safe to be you.
